The men and women track and field team competed in the Fred Beile Classic at Doane University on Saturday Jan. 30.  There were a total of eight Bulldog event winners, but none stood out more so than sophomore Josie Puelz as she became the second woman in Concordia’s history to clear 13 feet in pole vault.  She also broke the Fuhrer Fieldhouse record by clearing 13’ 1 ¾” and putting her first in NAIA.

Two other Bulldogs tied the school record for high jump at 2.06 meters as they both tied for second in the meet, sophomore Wyatt Loga and junior Cody Williams.

Notable wins in the meet came from freshman Rylee Haecker, junior Sarah Lewis, freshman Grace Reiman, and sophomore Kylahn Heritage in the Women’s Distance Medley Relay with a time of 12:32.60.  The reigning GPAC Athlete of the Year Rachel Battershell, took home the gold as she finished with a time of 1:37.10 in the women’s 600 meter run.  Senior Alyssa Fye took home two titles over the weekend taking the mile with a time of 5:44.28 and 1,000 meters with a time of 3:23.13.

Sophomore Kylahn Heritage continues to shine in her young career as she took first place in the women’s 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:59.88.  Senior Henry Reimer and freshman Kadin Vrbas both took home titles in their respective races as Reimer won the men’s 400 meter dash with a time of 52.72 and Vrbas in the men’s 200 with a time of 24.16.  Senior Morgan De Jong continues to turn heads as she brings home the women’s weight throw title with a launch of 17.34m (56’10.75”).

Both men and women are sitting in the top five in NAIA as the women are second and the men are fourth.  Each week both squads show great growth and look to continue to improve throughout the season.

The Bulldogs look to continue their hot streak in their next meet which will be the Concordia University Classic held in WALZ Fieldhouse on Feb. 5 starting at 1 p.m.  No fans are allowed, however, people can watch the events through Concordia’s live stream which will be posted on the Concordia athletic website.
