Home Features Homecoming Week Kicks Off with Superhero Day

by Dana Simkin

Monday marked the beginning of Concordia’s 2016 homecoming week as students donned their superhero masks and cheered on the junior varsity football team.

Though some students opted to roll out of bed in their Marvel-printed pajama pants and call it a costume, others went to class in full Captain America costumes and Batman masks.

With the kickoff of this year’s game of Assassins on Monday, it was difficult to discern whether students’ shields and Nerf guns were a part of the game or just an accessory to their character-inspired ensembles.

The superheroes flocked to the stadium for the 6:30 p.m. kickoff of the junior varsity football game against Nebraska Wesleyan. With six minutes left in the first half, the Bulldogs turned up the defense and kept the Prairie Wolves from scoring, but were unable to pull ahead in the game, eventually losing 17-23. The post-game kickoff celebration originally scheduled for Monday evening was cancelled.

The homecoming week celebrations will continue on Tuesday with Jersey Day and the 6 vs. 6 volleyball tournament and 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament.
