Home Sports Men’s Basketball Adds Both a Win and Loss Over the Weekend

On Saturday, Concordia men’s basketball faced 18th-ranked Briar Cliff and despite a valiant effort, lost the game 83-74.

Freshman forward Clay Reimers had a breakout night by scoring a career high of 22 points and 10 rebounds off of the bench. Senior guard Eli Ziegler scored 18 points, while senior center Chandler Folkerts added 15 points in the game.

The Bulldogs shot 66.7 percent against the Chargers, who shot 61.5 percent.

The Bulldogs redeemed themselves on Sunday in the Corn Palace against Dakota Wesleyan. Concordia triumphed over the the seventh-ranked Tigers in an overtime, winning 109-106.

The game was offensively prominent all night, as both teams finished with triple digits.

Folkerts scored a career high of 37 points and added 14 rebounds in Sunday night’s win. Folkerts went 16-23 from the field.

Ziegler had another big night, scoring 25 points in his 41 minutes of play. Senior guard Seth Curran added 17 points and six assists. Reimers contributed with 16 points against the Tigers.

In the final seven seconds of the game, Ziegler made a jump shot, then Curran nailed two free throws to make the score 109-106. The Tigers made an effort to hit a last minute shot, but were shut down thanks to the defensive efforts of freshman guard Jake Hornick.

After this weekend, the Bulldogs will hit the road again for a rematch against Hastings. The last time the two met, the Bulldogs barely came out on top with a score of 78-76. The game is set for 8 p.m.
