Concordia men’s soccer suffered a tough loss to the Hastings College Broncos on Oct. 17 with a final score of 3-1.

Right from the start, the Bulldogs were forced to play tough defense. The Broncos are currently undefeated with their record being 6-0.

It was a competitive game as the Bulldogs didn’t let the Broncos breakthrough their backline for most of the first period. In the 37th minute of play, the Broncos scored on an own goal when the Bulldogs hit the ball into their own net. At half time, the score was 1-0 Hastings. Goalkeeper, freshman Federico Andrea Simonetti had two saves in the first period.

Not far along into the second half, in the 47th minute of play, Hastings found the back of the net taking an early lead of 2-0. Only a few short minutes after that, the Broncos scored again leaving the score at 3-0.

In the 72nd minute, junior Carlos Orquiz made the goal for Concordia with an assist from senior Garret Perry. Orquiz now has three goals this season. This sparked a bit of a fire in the Bulldogs, but not enough to finish the game coming out on top. The final score rested at 3-1.

Hastings led in shots, with a total of 12, and Concordia ended with a total of nine. The Broncos also kept a high number of corner kicks with 13 and Concordia, three. The Bulldogs now have a record of six wins, two losses and one tie. They stand with four wins, one loss and one tie in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

The rivalry between the two teams was shown throughout the game. Seven yellow cards were handed out to the teams, combined along with a high number of fouls on both sides. The fiery game was watched by many with higher attendance due to senior day.

The seniors of Concordia men’s soccer team were celebrated before the game as were the women’s team. Seniors on the team are Joao Pedro Verissimo, Trenton Williams, Garrett Perry, Jackson Myers, Ethan Doyle and David Moreno.

Men’s soccer will be back to play in Bulldog Stadium on Oct. 21 against Briar Cliff, who is currently undefeated.
