Concordia women’s soccer beat rival Hastings College 1-0 on Oct. 17, defending the home field.

It was a special day for the Bulldogs as they celebrated senior day and added another win to their record.

Freshman Sydney Ross was the one to find the back of the net for the Bulldogs in the second period. After junior Mikeila Martinez’s shot attempt ricocheted off of the goal post, Ross ran in past the goal line to shoot the goal and score for the Bulldogs in the 82nd minute of play.

“After seeing the ball hit the back of the net, I was overwhelmed with excitement,” Ross says. “I am so proud of my team and looking forward for what’s to come in the remainder of our season.”

The Bulldogs gave the Broncos a run for their money, outshooting them with six shots in the first period and six in the second for a total of 12. The Bulldogs came out strong offensively and defensively, leaving the Broncos with a total of only one shot.

Seniors on the team were celebrated before the start of the game, greeting their parents on the track. Seniors this year include Michaela Twito, Tori Cera, Ashley Camacho, Sarah Wuthrich, Jennika Chapman, Katie Miles, Chelsea Bright, Cassie Montiel and Emily Sanders.

“I feel confident that and excited for the coming game this Wednesday,” Ross said. “I believe in my team and know that we will finish with a win.”

This is the third consecutive win in a row for the team.  All three games have been won within one point as well. Goalkeeper senior Lindsey Carley also got her 21st career shutout, keeping her only eight away from breaking the school record.

The team now sits at a 6-3 record and 6-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

The Bulldogs are set to play Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Bulldog Stadium against Briar Cliff University.
