by Garrett Suchanek

Sunday afternoon the Concordia softball team capped off a busy week of play with a doubleheader against No. 23 Grand View University. The Bulldogs dropped both games by final scores of 5-4 and 5-4. Concordia is now 25-10 overall and 6-4 in GPAC.

The Bulldogs lost both games in a heartbreaking fashion. In game one, the Vikings won with a walk-off three-run home run, and in game two, Grand View won with a walk-off walk with the bases loaded.

Concordia entered the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-run advantage over Grand View, but the Vikings used offensive firepower to blast past the Bulldogs. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Vikings had three base hits, but had one base running error that led to an out. With two outs and runners on the corners, the Vikings sent Devin Brown to the plate, and Brown blasted a three-run home run to win the game.

In game two, the Bulldogs were in a similar situation with the lead and three outs from winning the game. The Vikings tied the game with an RBI sac fly in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs and a runner on second base the Bulldogs needed one out to go to extra innings. Grand View then earned back-to-back walks to load the bases. With the bases loaded and two down in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bulldogs needed to get either Haley Stoll or one of the runners on base out. However, Stoll earned a walk-off RBI walk to win the game and complete the sweep of Concordia.

The Bulldogs will return to GPAC play when they travel to Lincoln on Wednesday, April 13 for a doubleheader with Nebraska Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
