Home News Seniors Showcase Art in BFA Exhibit

By Macey Kroeger

The art department is getting ready for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition as the academic year comes to an end. Seniors in the BFA program are finalizing their projects to be able to set up their exhibition in the Marxhausen Gallery of Art.

Brooke Gettman, a junior BFA major, will be participating in the exhibition next year. She was accepted into the program earlier this year. Gettman explained the process of applying to the program.

“Every year the junior class participates in portfolio reviews to enter the BFA program,” Gettman said. “The professors work together to pick a handful of students to enter the program in which they look at different aspects of their artwork, work ethic, among other things.”

Senior BFA major Jacy Embray is currently working on her pieces that will get displayed at the exhibition. Embray said she does not have to work on her project alone and has had multiple sources of support throughout her process.

“We work with the professors throughout,” Embray said. “We each have a mentor that will advise us in the decisions that we make for our exhibition.”

The BFA Thesis Exhibition will run from April 14 through May 1. There will be a reception on April 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to honor the senior BFA majors and the hard work they put into the program. A talk will be held at 2 p.m. that day in Thom Auditorium.

Gettman is looking forward to the coming exhibition.

“It’s always exciting to be able to share your artwork with others and have it up instead of lying around in your studio or room,” Gettman said.

The Marxhausen Gallery of Art is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., free of admission.
