Concordia’s softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with Nebraska Wesleyan on Thursday night at Plum Creek Park.

The Bulldogs improved to 17-7 overall for the season.

In the first game, the Bulldogs were on the ropes early. Wesleyan scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The Bulldogs fought back and scored one run in the second, and junior Michaela Woodward tied the game up with a home run in the third. Woodward added an RBI single in the fourth to give Concordia a 3-2 lead.

The back and forth continued the rest of the game, with Wesleyan scoring in the fifth to tie and sophomore Leah Kalkwarf putting the Bulldogs back up with an RBI single. After Wesleyan scored in the seventh to tie the game 4-4, the Bulldogs scored the winning run when sophomore Jamie Lefebure forced a bases-loaded walk to give Concordia a 5-4 win.

Woodward and Kalkwarf led the Bulldogs with two hits and two RBIs each.

The second game started with two runs in the first two innings from Nebraska Wesleyan to take the lead. Kalkwarf and Lefebure tied the game up in the bottom of the second for Concordia, and the Bulldogs scored four runs in the third to take a 6-3 lead. Concordia then scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, pulling away from Wesleyan for an 11-4 victory in game two.

Senior Kylie Harpst led the Bulldogs with two hits and three runs scored. Kalkwarf had two hits and two RBIs to complete a solid two games for the sophomore.
