If you missed Concordia University Nebraska sports this weekend, here is what happened.
The Concordia cross country team sent three athletes to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 22 with freshman Vaughn Hendrickson capping off his freshman season with an All-American title and a 36th place finish with a 24:37.2 8k. Sophomore Trey Robertson finished 99th in the event with a time of 25:09.5. Junior Keegan Beisel was the lone woman at the event and finished 248th with a 6k time of 24:11.9.
The Concordia wrestling team had a dual against the Hastings College Broncos on Nov. 22 narrowly winning 33-22 with four pins making the difference for the Bulldogs. Hastings took advantage in the first bouts with a Concordia forfeit and pins in the 133 and 149 weight classes.
Senior Creighton Baughman was the first Bulldog to score with a 2:12 fall. Junior Francisco Mendez and senior Cole Price helped ease the Hastings lead with a 16-4 major decision and 19-4 tech fall respectively.
Sophomore Barret Brandt took the lead for Concordia in the 174 weight class with a 1:51 fall to make the score 21-18. Seniors Hunter Weimer (184) and Teegan Tschampel (197) solidified the lead with 1:55 and 0:37 pins respectively. Hastings had one last win with a 11-0 major decision in the 287 class with Koen Mattern overcoming senior Mason Garcia.
Wrestling also sent 11 athletes to the UNK Younes Hospitality Open in Kearney on Nov. 23. The team accumulated 11 wins with five wrestlers taking two wins: Tyler Flynn (133), Dominick Flynn (149), Simon Arredondo (165), Blane Boehmer (184) and Collin Schwartzkopf (197). Boehmer had a 5:00 fall and 2:06 fall. D. Flynn had a 1:36 fall as well in his first match.
