Women’s Golf
The women’s golf team came up just short of a team championship on Sept 16-17 at the Siouxland Invite but had the overall individual winner.
Senior Emery Custer took home the title with a total of 155 (77-78) for the two-round tournament. She edged out Morningside’s Kendra Casey by one stroke. Senior Maddie Lewis came in second for the Bulldog as she shot 163 (80-83) to take sixth place.
As a team, Concordia placed second with a 663 total, just two strokes behind Great Plains Athletic Conference rivals, Northwestern.
The women’s golf team will be back in action on Sept. 29 when they will travel to York, Nebraska, for the York College Invite.
Women’s Soccer
The women’s soccer team defeated the York Panthers on Sept. 17 with a convincing 4-0 scoreline.
Concordia shared the scoring burden in the match with goals from four different players. Senior Kierstynn Garner opened the scoring in the first half, assisted by senior Sierra Springer. Freshman Guadalupe Sanchez scored in the 58th minute, assisted by Garner, and then late goals from sophomore Kyana Rios and freshman Charli Preister sealed the victory.
The 5-0-3 Bulldogs outshot York 28-3 and didn’t require any saves from sophomore goalkeeper Aliya Vidro.
Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer team defeated the York Panthers in a chippy 3-1 game on Sept. 17, which featured two red cards.
Concordia opened the scoring in the 18th minute via a free kick from junior Hugo Garrote, which he sent over the wall and into the corner of the goal. Freshman Oliver Balazs doubled the lead with a goal in the 25th minute. The 2-0 scoreline held into halftime.
Both teams received a red card in the second half, which meant it was a 10 against 10 game for the final 20 minutes of the match.
York scored off a penalty kick with 10 minutes to go, but a goal from sophomore Ricards Busmeisters gave the Bulldogs a cushion for the remainder of the match, which finished 3-1.
