Concordia’s Historical Society hosted a battle of wits and pop culture memory on Thursday, Nov. 3. Over 25 people on seven different teams came to the Cattle Conference room for a trivia night to test out their knowledge on topics such as “sports”, “movies and books”, “geography”, and “U.S. History”.

Senior and Historical Society president Taylor Christian was the emcee for the evening, and wanted to host the event to increase interest in the club.

“We needed a fun activity, with prizes and incentives to encourage new members,” Christian said. “I’ve done a lot of trivia nights and they seemed to be popular. I thought it would be easy and historical.”

A few days before the event, there was doubt whether there would be enough participants to proceed. But Christian and the club were pleasantly surprised by last minute signups, with more people competing than they expected.

The teams competed in six timed rounds, including a “lightning round” and a “bonus round”, with nine questions in each. Teams turned in their answers at the end of each round.

The students who participated were enthusiastic about the event. Teams shouted and exclaimed when they answered a question correctly and let out groans of defeat when they got one wrong. The teams even created rivalries.

“One of the best parts was the rivalries back and forth between the tables, it made it more competitive and fun,” junior Joseph Hope-Hull said.

All the students involved received free pizza and the winning team received a gift certificate for a free meal from the Doghouse.

Christian said the Historical Society is going to continue to host one event a month. A visit to the Nebraska National Guard Museum is being planned, as well as a movie night.
