The Concordia men’s golfers used the windy weather to carry themselves up a spot in the GPAC standings in Lincoln. The Bulldogs competed on Monday, April 11 during the third GPAC Qualifier of the season hosted by the Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln.

Freshman Nolan Zikas led Concordia with his first career tournament victory shooting a 74 (+3). Zikas finished the day with five birdies after a rough start. Junior Reid Wiebe also bounced back from illness to finish with a season best 75.

“Both Nolan and Reid competed at a high level for GPAC #3,” coach Brett Muller said. “After starting with a double bogey on his first hole of the day, Nolan did a great job settling down. He made five birdies on the day that really made the difference for him to earn a share of the win for GPAC #3.”

The Bulldogs used their 319 tally to pass Dordt College for eighth place in the overall GPAC standings. Through the three GPAC tournaments, the Bulldogs have a total score of 947 composed of a 312-316-319.

Rounding out Concordia’s top five were sophomores Russell Otten (84) and Tyler Ehresman (87) and junior Jared Knoepfel (86).

The team will continue its season on April 18-19 in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. Briar Cliff University is hosting the two-day event that will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Dakota Dunes Country Club.
