Rendition of Spanish song “Tu Eres” wins at Concordia’s Variety Show

Freshman Joseph Navarrete won the crowd and the competition with his rendition of “Tu Eres” during the Variety show on Tuesday night. Students watched 9 other unique acts during the show.
Sophomore Rachel Moldenhauer said that she was very moved by Navarrete’s talent.
“It was definitely a deserved win. It was very heartwarming, very sweet.”
Junior Eunice Clausing commented on the winner’s guitar skills. “I have played a little guitar in my lifetime, and I know how hard it is,” she said. “He wasn’t using a pick, I don’t think, so that strumming was very impressive.”
Sophomore Christopher Reimer and sophomore Faith Rohloff served as the hosts of the show. Assistant director of Student Life Nick Wiles who planned the event said that timing and preparation were a cause of concern leading up to the event.
“I think people were a little nervous about getting an act together, you know, on the fourth week of classes,” he said. “But everybody came together and it was a great show, so we’re looking forward to it next year.”
Senior Timothy Dose, who performed Tori Kelly’s “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” admitted after the show that he felt nervous at first but ultimately felt welcomed by the community.
“I felt like there were a lot of nerves up there, but at the same time, there were none because it’s just Concordia, and Concordia Nebraska is a place of family, so I wasn’t nervous at all.”
Moldenhauer described the event as a positive experience overall. “It was a fun mix of serious, talented performances and just being up there for the fun of the game,” she said. “I really enjoyed the ‘Piano Man’ performance, especially as the crowd joined in.”
“We want to do events that students are really interested in doing,” said Wiles. “I think the turnout was great.”
This year’s homecoming court nominees were also announced during the show. Nominees include senior Rachel Amey, senior Julia Hitz, senior Reagan Martens, senior Tara Pester and senior Mi-Ree Zwick for homecoming queen. The nominees for homecoming king include senior Timothy Baker, senior Andrew Brosius, senior Timothy Dose, senior Aiden Jenik and senior Ethan Reynolds.
