by Garrett Suchanek

The Concordia softball team played for the third straight day and showed no signs of tiredness as the Bulldogs dominated Grace University 11-0 and 14-4, finishing both games after the fifth inning by invoking the run rule.

The two wins give Concordia a 24-7 record overall and 5-3 in GPAC.

In game one, the Bulldogs plated four runs in the first inning, two in the third and five in the fourth to earn an 11-0 win. Junior Kylie Harpst got the start in game one and went five innings for a complete game shut-out. Harpst recorded 11 strikeouts and gave up one hit. Offensively, six starters recorded at least one hit.

In game two, junior Amanda Wygant started at the mound for Concordia and pitched a complete game. Wygant gave up three earned runs on six hits but had eight strikeouts. The Bulldogs exerted their authority in the second inning when Concordia plated 12 runs to blow the game open. The Royals scored all four of their runs in the final two innings of play.

Concordia will return to GPAC play when the team travels to No. 14 Morningside College for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
