The No. 4 Concordia University volleyball team pulled off a thrilling reverse sweep of No. 19 Midland on Nov. 1, continuing its Great Plains Athletic Conference dominance and setting itself up well heading into the conference tournament.

The match looked to be going all wrong for the Bulldogs as the Warriors of Midland took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-23. Concordia fought back, however, and won the final three sets 25-19, 25-23 and 15-9.

The main culprit for Concordia’s success was the play at the net. Junior Ava Greene put up eight kills on 17 attacks and took part in 13 blocks. Senior Molli Martin hit .550, 12 kills on 20 swings with just two errors. And senior Ashley Keck was the most set Bulldog, with 18 of her 46 attacks coming down for points. Keck also led the team with 18 digs. Seniors Lily Psencik and Savannah Shelburne split the setting duties with 29 and 25 assists, respectively.

Concordia’s defense was especially stifling in the final set as the Warriors went negative on their kill percentage with -.043.

The Bulldogs will face off with rivals Doane on Nov. 4 in their final GPAC regular-season match of the year. The Bulldogs will host the first round of the conference tournament on Nov. 8.
