Concordia Glow Volleyball event provides a fun environment for students to relax

Multicolored lights lit the volleyball pit Thursday night as teams played and listened to country music. Many students came to watch and enjoy the music while glowsticks, chips, cookies and soda were provided on Janzow balcony.

Freshman Ava Langston played a couple of rounds and said she enjoyed the calm atmosphere.

“There is just the right amount of people here. Enough to make teams, but not so many that it is crowded,” Langston said.

Freshman Jesalyn Priest and freshman Audrey Weller enjoyed watching the teams play under the multicolored lights.

“Glow volleyball was a really good reason to get out of the dorm. I like watching volleyball and listening to the music,” Priest said. “I like watching people make saves.”

“I really like watching them play, even though I don’t play myself,” Weller said. “The music creates a fun environment, too.”

The volleyball net was fringed by multicolored lights. There were a couple of other blue and green lights that helped the players see the ball.

Freshman Grace Douglas watched the event from the balcony while enjoying a soda.

“The lights are very colorful; they add to the atmosphere,” Douglas said. “The country music adds too.”

Junior John Jurchen, senior Emily Bonilla and sophomore Matthew Hoops organized the event. They rotated the teams, so that teams played with each other randomly.

The teams created names, and the simple rotation style meant that the teams could come and go as they pleased. The event lasted for as long as people wanted to play.

Hoops said that they tried to organize the refreshments so that there weren’t repeated snacks from other homecoming events.

“It was pretty simple planning,” Hoops said. “We planned out when we would start setting stuff up to be ready and followed that.”
