Home Sports Men’s Basketball Blasts Lancers

Despite a slow start, the Concordia men’s basketball team quickly ran away from the Mount Marty Lancers for a blowout win 87-48 on Jan. 23 in Yankton.

The Bulldogs trailed 11-10 early in the first half, but soon gained a 16-13 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half. A continued 14-0 run gave the Bulldogs a 24-13 lead with 5:51 on the clock. Despite a pair of free throws for the Lancers, the Bulldog’s offense did not slow down. A 27-4 run finished the half for Concordia and gave the Bulldogs a 37-17 lead.

Concordia’s dominance continued in the second half and all thirteen players got playing time throughout the half. With 10 minutes left in play, the Bulldogs led 60-31. Concordia finished its dominant win 87-48.

Twelve Bulldogs tallied points in the scorebook. Junior Chandler Folkerts and senior Jamie Pearson each led the team with 15 points, and junior Eli Ziegler netted another 10 points for the Bulldogs. Senior Micah Kohlwey also contributed nine points, while sophomore Nathan Toenjes and junior Kyle Pierce added eight points apiece.

The Bulldogs stand at 12-9 on the season and 6-8 in the GPAC standings. Concordia will play the Doane Tigers at home at 8 p.m. on Jan. 27 before heading to the Concordia Invitational Tournament in Chicago on Jan. 29-30.
