Men’s Basketball Falls to No. 8 Dakota Wesleyan

The No. 9 Concordia Bulldogs took on the No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan Tigers. Despite a third-quarter lead, the Bulldogs were unable to pull out a victory against the Tigers losing 73-66.

After the first quarter, the Bulldogs led 17-14 with four 3-pointers. Concordia lost momentum in the second quarter and trailed 19-17 with 6:35 left in the second quarter. The Bulldogs shortly regained the lead 24-22 with 3:45 left in the half. The score tipped back and forth until halftime when the Tigers led 31-29.

After the break, the Bulldogs came out on fire and started the quarter with a 12-2 run. Freshman Maddie Egr gave Concordia a 43-35 lead with back-to-back buckets halfway through the quarter. Continuing with the offensive power, the Bulldogs scored a whopping 27 points in the third quarter. Heading into the final quarter of play, the Bulldogs held a 56-48 lead.

Dakota Wesleyan quickly closed the gap on the scoreboard and gained the lead 61-60 with 3:52 left in the game. The Bulldogs maintained contact, trailing 63-66 with a minute left in play, but were unable to comeback in the end.

Eleven Bulldog players contributed to a balanced scoring effort. Senior Becky Mueller was the only Bulldog in double digits with 12 points.

The Concordia Bulldogs now stand with a 4-3 overall record and a 2-3 record in the GPAC. Concordia will return to Seward to battle three conference foes before the end of the semester. The Bulldogs will next take the court is at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9 against Dordt College.
