Concordia men’s tennis came up short against conference rival Doane on Thursday afternoon, falling 7-2.

Concordia has now lost three straight games and stands 5-9 on the season. The match against Doane was the conference opener. Concordia has three conference games remaining in the season.

Concordia’s singles lineup included sophomore Thomas Greef, seniors Javier Moreno and Patricio Esquivil, and freshmen Lucas Zoller and Josh Miller. Sophomore Gabe Poling was the only victorious singles player on the day, winning 6-3 and 6-0.

“The team’s plan for the rest of the season is getting better at just not getting down….which is the biggest part of the game,” Poling said. “Our game play is outstanding, but when we don’t play as well then most of the time it is very hard for us to get our heads back in the game.”

In doubles play, the sole duo of Moreno and Poling was victorious, winning 8-2.

“Javier and I just tried to get the ball back when we return because we are confident enough with keeping our serves that all we need is to break the other guys…which we did,” Poling said.

The Bulldogs now continue conference play as they take on the Morningside Mustangs in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday, April 8. The first serve is set for noon.
