Nathan Pennekamp and Rhaya Kaschinske were crowned 2024 Homecoming King and Queen at Saturday’s homecoming football game, continuing a longstanding Concordia tradition.

Last year’s King and Queen, Calvin Rhode and Rachel Smith, returned to campus to crown their successors.

Both monarchs are distance runners for the cross country and the track and field teams. Kaschinske has been to several national track and field championships and Pennekamp has received three all-conference awards for the steeplechase.

Pennekamp and Kaschinske are both from Fort Wayne, Indiana and went to Concordia Lutheran High School.

Pennekamp is a secondary math education major getting his Lutheran Teacher’s Diploma. He served as a resident assistant for two years.

“Saturday was fun, it was a great day,” said Pennekamp. “Great to have a full crowd filled with Bulldogs for Homecoming football, then move over to the volleyball game and see the same thing. I’m thankful to have had college experiences like these. Concordia has given me the chance to meet some great people and make great friends and I’m very grateful.”

Kaschinske is a K-12 special education major getting her LTD. She served as an RA for two years and is a member of Concordia Ambassadors for Students in Education.

“Homecoming at CUNE shows just how amazing this place is,” said Kaschinske, “The joy of community is shared by so many and I am so thankful that I get to be part of that. There is a reason there are signs all around campus that say ‘Welcome Home.’ I am grateful for all the memories that will be held onto from this year’s homecoming!”
