If you missed Concordia University Nebraska sports this week, here is what happened.
Concordia shooting sports started off their season with the Fort Hays State University Fall Intercollegiate Shoot from Sept. 7-8 in Russell, Kan. The team finished fifth overall with a final score of 1,952. Senior Brennen Stones was the top shooter shooting 92 in sporting, 76 in super sporting, 94 in trap, 87 in trap doubles and 47 in skeet doubles for a total of 396 points. He placed 28th overall. Fellow senior Sam Blevins was just behind with a total score of 395. The team next competes at the Simpson College Invite from Sept. 14-15 in Waukee, Iowa.
Concordia women’s tennis also began their season in these past few days with a 5-2 against the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves on Sept. 10. The team lost the doubles point and one single but rallied to win most of the singles and the dual. Junior Mariana Molano, sophomore Chakira Derman, junior Alana Lopez Pagan, sophomore Alexa Richert and freshman Ishane Derman won their singles matches. Richert and freshman Shea Kramer won their doubles match.
Concordia men’s tennis also faced Nebraska Wesleyan on Sept. 10 winning 6-1. The team swept the doubles point and won almost all the singles matches. Junior Nick Velders, junior Santiago Abadia, senior Manuel Rodriguez Berdud, sophomore Michael Bedrosian and senior Grady Works were the singles winners. Both the women and the men will split up to compete at the Kansas Wesleyan University Invitational and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Central-West ITA Regional Championship in Salina, Kan. on Sept. 20-22.
Concordia women’s golf had two events: the Matthew Goette Fall Classic on Sept. 9 and the Battle at Bayside on Sept. 9-10. Four Bulldogs represented Concordia at the Matthew Goette who placed eighth with a score of 439 (+151). Those players were Senior Sarah Wilson (102), freshman Makenzie Hughes (112), sophomore Emma McCoy (112) and another sophomore Abigail Kollbaum (113).
The women also finished eighth at the Battle at Bayside with a final score of 383-355–738. Junior Emery Custer was the top golfer at the meet with a final score of 92-80–172 tying for 28th. Next the team goes to the Siouxland Invitational on Sept. 23-24.
Concordia men’s golf also competed, traveling to Orange City, Iowa for the Siouxland Invitational on Sept. 9-10. The team placed 12th overall with a final card of 310-311-302–923. Senior Jake Hagerbaumer was the top golfer for the event tying for 26th with a card of 78-73-73–224. The men next compete at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate on Sept. 23-24.
Concordia women’s soccer faced a crushing 2-0 loss to the Benedictine College Ravens on Sept. 11 in Bulldog Stadium. Benedictine’s Jenna Wilkson scored two goals within a two-and-a-half-minute window to put the Ravens ahead. Concordia had nine shots with four of those being on goal. Senior Angela Banks was the goalie for the night with two saves and two goals allowed. The team is now 1-2-1 and next faces York University on Sept. 14.
The Concordia men’s soccer team also faced No. 24 Benedictine on Sept. 11 and lost 1-0 with a Raven goal in the 58th minute. Sophomore Aidan Nachi was the closest to another goal for the Bulldogs recording two shots on goal. The team as a whole had seven shots and four on goal. Junior Nolan Fuelberth was the goalie for the night with five saves and one goal allowed. The team is now 1-2-3 and also faces York University on Sept. 14.
