A group of Concordia’s resident assistants organized a Valentine’s Day-themed trivia night on the snowy evening of Feb. 15, drawing five teams of students to an “enjoyable” night of snacks and competition.

RAs Madee Hudson-Knowlton, Adah Pflughoeft, Avery Rothert, and Hannah Schauer hosted the event in Cattle Conference Room in the Janzow Campus Center. All the trivia questions they asked were related to Valentine’s Day, at least vaguely.

“We tried to come up with a variety of questions just to appeal to everybody,” Hudson-Knowlton said. The RAs had questions that pertained to history, science, pop culture, and more so that everyone could be included and have a “fighting chance.”

One group of four—Westley Determan, Aidan Limback, Benjamin Ehrenberg, and Adric Schmitz—named their team DJ Khaled. They consistently uplifted the mood of the event, creating laughs whenever they made up a silly answer or cheering whenever they got an answer right.

Team DJ Khaled came in last place, but the team members said they had fun.

“We knew coming in that we were the underdogs,” Limback said. “We put up a good fight though. I’m pleased with our effort.”

Determan said that the group would definitely be interested in coming to another trivia night because they enjoyed themselves.

“Hopefully they change up the categories,” Determan said. “Maybe not Valentine’s. It’s not our forte.”

Hannah Ethridge was on the winning team named the Rheneghades, pronounced like “Renegades.”

“We had a fun spelling because we used the first letters of everyone on our team, so there were a bunch of H’s and a silent C somewhere,” Ethridge said.

She said that the RAs did a “really good job of organizing everything and making sure everything went smoothly.”

Jason Kettelhake, a member of the team Hot Dawgs, thought that the event was fun “with a lot of people.” He said he enjoyed getting to hang out with people he normally did not hang out with.

“It was a good community event for us all to get together and enjoy,” said Kettelhake.

The RA hosts said they thought the event went well.

“I definitely think that everybody who was here enjoyed today,” said Hudson-Knowlton.
