Concordia men’s soccer had a great night on Oct. 8 in Hastings, where they defeated the Hastings College Broncos 3-1 in an important Great Plains Athletic Conference game.

The Broncos drew first blood in last night’s showing with a goal seven minutes into the first half. Concordia tried to come back immediately with a shot of their own, which was blocked by Hastings’s goalkeeper.

Hastings continued to hold the advantage over Concordia through the first half, outshooting the Bulldogs 7-2. But that one other shot was all that the Bulldogs needed to get an equalizer. Junior Jasper Hofland for Concordia was able to break through into the Broncos’ defense and tie the game up with 15 minutes left in the half.

The rest of the first half remained quiet, as did a majority of the second after the restart. Concordia, who managed to outshoot the Broncos 6-4 in the second half, kept things interesting, however, with a few close shots and corner kicks on the goal.

Towards the end of the second half, junior Kai Olbrich added to the Bulldogs’ score, assisted by junior Oliver Benson, making the score 2-1. Minutes later, Benson had a shot of his own that turned into a goal to lengthen the lead and make it a 3-1 game.

Hastings threatened in the waning minutes of the second half with a few offensive bursts and one header shot that resulted in a great save by Concordia’s goalkeeper, Inigo Chavarria, but was unable in the end to do any more significant damage.

After two back-to-back away games, Concordia Men’s Soccer returns home this Saturday for their Homecoming game, where they will face the Waldorf Vikings in what should prove to be an exciting game for the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium.
