Concordia volleyball takes the driver’s seat away from home

The Concordia volleyball team dominated at the net during its sweep of the Hastings Broncos on Oct. 15.
The Bulldogs held Hastings to below 20 points in each set, finishing 25-14, 25-16, and 25-18. The challenge for the Broncos was getting quality hits at the Concordia defense and beating the back row players who led the Broncos 70-47 in regard to digs.
Concordia also led in the blocking stats with five solos and six assists, while Hastings struggled to get more than one up for blocks with just two assists to aid their five solos.
Concordia’s overall defensive performance held the Broncos to a net-zero kill percentage, while the Bulldogs boasted a .254.
Concordia was in the driver’s seat for nearly the entirety of the match. Hastings had the lead once in one of the sets; it was a 2-1 lead in the first. After that, Concordia did not let the Broncos have any time in front.
Junior Ava Greene bossed the net with seven kills on 13 attempts with two errors for a .385 kill percentage. Senior Ashley Keck led the team in total kills with 12 on 31 swings. Freshman Emma Brueggemann topped the team with 22 digs while senior Savannah Shelburne dished out a team-high 24 assists.
The win brings Concordia up to 17-2, 10-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs are back in action on Oct. 18 when they will travel the Mitchell, South Dakota, to face the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers.
