Home News CUNE alumna returns as new campus counselor

By Daniel Heitshusen

Concordia’s new counselor  Kathleen von Kampen will begin serving in the Counseling and Behavioral Health Center this August.

Von Kampen graduated from Concordia in 2009 and has experience as a therapist working at Concordia University Irvine and Trinity Christian Counseling. She also started a private practice in Michigan and taught at Concordia University Ann Arbor. She is married and has two children.

“CUNE holds a special place in my heart and I hoped to return some day in some capacity,” von Kampen said in an email interview.

There are some new programs that the Counseling Center will be offering this year, including the “Let’s Talk!” program, which will be offered every Wednesday 12 p.m.-1:30 p.m. The program will be an opportunity for students to meet with the campus counselor to address any questions or issues they may have.

“I am here to serve students with their mental health needs,” von Kampen said. “Whether that looks like connecting them to a peer minister on campus, assisting with finding long term counseling options off campus … or managing mental health symptoms and walking alongside them through both tough and joyous occasions.”

Von Kampen encourages students to check out this new program and ask questions about it, and is excited to be back at Concordia.
