by Garrett Suchanek

On a cool day the Concordia softball team wrapped up its final road trip of the regular season by splitting a doubleheader against College of Saint Mary on Friday, April 29. The Bulldogs dropped the first game 1-5, but responded with a blowout 10-0 win in game two. Concordia is now 29-16 on the year and 10-10 in GPAC play.

In the opening game, the Flames kept the Bulldogs’ bats quiet, allowing just one run on seven hits. College of Saint Mary plated a run in the first inning and opened the game with a three-run fifth inning. The Flames gave up their only run of the game to Concordia in the sixth inning, but added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. The Flames won by a final score of 5-1.

In the nightcap, junior Kylie Harpst pitched a complete game shutout and gave up just three hits. Concordia also found its rhythm on offense. The Bulldogs struck six times in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored once in the fifth inning on a freshman Maddie Fousek RBI single. Concordia tacked on three more runs in the seventh inning to win the game 10-0.

The Bulldogs were scheduled for a doubleheader with Dordt College on April 30, but the game was postponed due to rain. A makeup date has not been made official yet. Both Dordt and Concordia have already clinched spots in the GPAC tournament.
