by Garrett Suchanek

Thursday night the No. 8 Concordia wrestling team welcomed No. 20 Doane College to Walz Arena, where the Bulldogs extended their GPAC dual winning streak to 10 with a 24-15 win.

Concordia is now 8-4 in duals on the year and 3-0 in GPAC. The only other unbeaten team in GPAC is Morningside, who is 3-2 overall and 2-0 in GPAC.

The Bulldogs never trailed the Tigers, but the dual got tight after Doane picked up back-to-back wins by decision and pin fall. With Concordia leading 15-12 and three matches to go the Bulldogs finished strong winning two of the matches.

Matt Atwood won by pin fall to give Concordia a 21-12 advantage, but the Tigers won by a 7-3 decision in the 197 weight class to bring the score to 21-15. However, junior Ceron Francisco put the finishing touches on the Bulldog victory with an 8-1 decision in the heavyweight weight class.

Four other Bulldogs picked up wins on the night. Junior Dmitri Smith won by major decision 12-4 (125 weight class), junior Andrew Schulte won by a 9-4 decision (141 weight class), junior Foster Bunce won by a 2-0 decision (149 weight class) and senior Jr Lule won by technical fall 19-2 (157 weight class).

The Bulldogs will look to extend their GPAC dual winning streak to 11 when they travel to Orange City, Iowa, to face Northwestern College at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23.
