by Garrett Suchanek

The Concordia Bulldog track and field team posted three new school records and 13 automatic national qualifying marks in its second meet of the year.

Seniors Kim Wood and Cody Boellstorff and junior Zach Lurz led the way for the Bulldogs by breaking three school records.

Wood broke a 16-year-old record, set by Rachael Geidel, with a time of 4:57.78 in the one-mile run. Wood is the first female athlete in Concordia’s history to run an under five-minute mile.

Boellstorff and Lurz broke school records in throwing events. Boellstorff tossed a monstrous 64’ 1” in the weight throw, while Lurz threw the shot put 59’ 6 ¼”.

Not to be overshadowed by the record breaking marks of Wood, Boellstorff and Lurz, the Bulldog team captured a total of 23 top five finishes on the day. Of the 23 top five finishes, six claimed first place finishes.
