Home Sports Women’s Volleyball Falls Short at Start

By Chris Johnstone

The Concordia volleyball team opened up the season with a loss to Baker University (Kan.), 25-16, 25-16, 25-14, in front of a large crowd inside Walz Arena. This was the first time in five years that the women’s volleyball squad have opened the season with a loss.

Sophomore outside hitter Alex La Plant led the way with 7 kills, but it was not enough to combat the Wildcat attack.

“While it was the first game of the season, that’s not an excuse, everyone on the team admitted that today’s performance was not “Bulldog Volleyball”, La Plant said.

Baker University sophomore Ashley Sparks drove the Wildcats with 12 kills in the 3 set match.

During the 2016 season, Concordia finished with a 15-19 (6-10) record.

“To prepare for our game against Bethany we just need to get our minds right,” La Plant said.  “Physically, we’re there. We need to stay true to our identity.”
