The Concordia men’s basketball team combined efficient shooting with balanced scoring but came up short in a 123–115 double-overtime loss to Morningside on Saturday.
Concordia trailed 50–49 at halftime but stayed in striking distance with 43 points in the second half, forcing overtime when the teams were tied at 92. In the first overtime, both teams scored 10 points, with Concordia answering each Morningside basket to keep the game going. But Morningside outscored Concordia 21–13 in the second extra period to secure the win.
Junior Brooks Kissinger led the Bulldogs with a triple-double, scoring 33 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing 10 assists while shooting 14-19 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Dane Jacobsen added 25 points, including seven three-pointers, and Junior Tate Odvody contributed 17 points off the bench, shooting 4-5 from three.
The Bulldogs shot 52.9 percent from the field and made 20-41 three-pointers, recording 28 assists on 37-made baskets. The Bulldogs were hampered by 16 turnovers, which allowed Morningside to pull ahead in the second overtime. Despite the loss, Concordia showed offensive balance and efficiency against one of the Great Plains Athletic Conference’s top teams.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 16-9 overall and 10-7 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. They will try to get back into a rhythm when they are on the road against Briar Cliff Saturday, Feb. 14.
