Home Sports Concordia Women’s Tennis Wins Twice on Saturday

Saturday the Concordia women’s tennis team picked up a pair of GPAC wins as the Bulldogs defeated Northwestern College 6-3 and Mount Marty 7-2. The two wins improves Concordia’s record to 6-14 and 4-3 in GPAC.

Concordia took on Northwestern College to open the day. In doubles competition, the Bulldogs won two of the three matches. Freshman Hailey Lemos and sophomore Annie Horn filled the No. 1 spot and sophomores Hannah Boe and Katie Hertz filled the No. 3 spot. Lemos and Horn won 8-2 while Boe and Hertz won 8-3.

In singles play, Horn and Boe both won in straight sets. Freshmen Katelinn Wurm and Kayla Smock also won their singles matches, with Wurm’s being the only three-set match in singles play. Lemos and Ebel lost their singles matches in straight sets.

In the second match, the Bulldogs continued to dominate, this time against Mount Marty College. Concordia swept the three doubles competition matches and won four of the six singles matches. Lemos and Horn teamed up for an 8-0 win, Wurm and Smock won 8-1 and Boe and Hertz won by forfeit.

For singles play, Wurm, Boe, Hertz and freshman Anna Kenney all won. All won in straight sets except Hertz, who won by forfeit. Horn filled the No. 1 spot, but fell in a tight three-set battle 6-0, 4-6 and 11-9. Lemos was the No. 2 player and lost 6-1 and 6-1.

The Bulldogs will finish the regular season on Wednesday, April 27 when they travel to Hastings for a matchup with Hastings College. First serve is for 4 p.m.
