Seward’s Olde Glory Theater presented a wide range of oddball characters played entirely by Concordia students in “Did Someone Say Murder?” directed by the Theatre Department head, Bryan Moore, over the weekend of Jan. 31- Feb. 2.

“Did Someone Say Murder?” is a multi-layered murder mystery focused on a variety of strange personalities. Harley Storie, who played Rathbone the detective, said that the play is “full of twists and turns of the murderous variety.”

“It begins as a murder night at a restaurant, but it doesn’t turn out to be what you expect,” she said.

Audience member and Concordia alumna Alleah Struble said the play kept her guessing.

“The first act kept me intrigued… and then when the second act takes place—I’m not gonna spoil anything—but I feel like me and the table that I was sitting at were just like: What? Huh? What’s going on?” she said.

Struble said she “enjoyed every ounce” of the performance.

Concordia student and assistant director Claire Horacek called the play “very chaotic and wacky.” She said that there were a lot of fun characters, a lot of plot twists, and that “you just gotta ride the wave” of the show’s ridiculousness.

Andrew Ring, who played Joe, said he enjoyed performing in front of the live audience.

“Having the audience with you makes everything more electric and fast,” Ring said. “It makes everything fun.”

Storie said that they “got to perform in front of a full audience for the first time” and that she thought that it was “very successful.” She also said performing at Olde Glory helps students strengthen their involvement in the community.

“Considering that this is a community theater and all of us are from Concordia, it really solidifies the relationship we have with our community,” Storie said.

Horacek said the cast only had three weeks of practice before performing. She said she is “very proud” of the cast of talented and hard-working actors.

Ring said the show’s quick turnaround does not give the cast time to block out every action, so “it’s kind of all up in the air of what you want to do.” He said he and the cast were very happy to participate in this year’s annual January show at Olde Glory.

Audience members are seated at dinner tables to watch the performances. Evening shows include dinner while matinee shows offer concessions.

Olde Glory has tickets for sale on their website, with discounts available for Concordia students.
