Concordia’s volleyball team bounced back from its first Great Plains Athletic Conference loss with a 3-0 sweep of Waldorf University to celebrate homecoming.
The game’s first set was a 25-23 win, with both teams going back and forth with the lead. The second set ended with the Waldorf Warriors’ overwhelming defeat at 25-8. The third and final set ended at 25-17 with the Bulldogs leading the team to a victory.
Right side hitter Ella Waters said that the volleyball team had a tough game the previous night.
“Bouncing back to today and giving all we got was something that we needed to do,” Waters said. “And we did it.”
“We played together as a team, minimized errors, and played confidently,” freshman Emma Brueggeman said.
The first set’s kill percentage was .179, which quickly improved to .500 and .447 in the second and third sets. Concordia’s defense improved during the second set and dropped Waldorf’s kill percentage to -.043.
One of the assistant baseball coaches, Ben Berg, watched the match and said that the outside hitters had a lot of control.
“It was fun to watch them compete and execute at a high level,” said Berg.
Concordia student Reilly Saline said that the game “wasn’t really close, but there were a lot of good plays today.”
Todd Martin’s daughter, Molli, is a middle blocker on the team. He said that one of his favorite parts of every game is the prayer with the other team, win or lose.
“That’s something I always look forward to,” said Martin.
Martin was Concordia’s best blocker with one solo and three assists. Senior Ashley Keck led with 15 kills on 36 attempts. Waters hit a monstrous .615.
