Home Arts & Culture CUNE postpones dedication of new music center until fall

By Sower Staff

The dedication of CUNE’s new $17.5 million Borland Center for Music and Theatre, scheduled for April 21, has been delayed until fall because the building is not yet complete enough to open, according to the administration.

“We’re having continued construction challenges of product delivery and delivery shortfall,” said CUNE Chief Financial Officer Dave Kumm.

A message sent to music students from Dr. Kurt von Kampen, CUNE’s music department chair, called for them to pray for the construction company and others involved in the completion of the project.

“I know this is disappointing news, especially for the seniors who will be leaving campus this spring,” von Kampen said in the message. “Construction timing ultimately is out of our hands.”

According to CUNE, university choirs scheduled to perform at St. John Lutheran Church this weekend will be held as planned and the One-Acts Festival has been moved to Weller Auditorium.
